FAQ

  • What are bitters?
    • Bitters are ‘concentrated flavor extracts for seasoning’ - Mark Bitterman.  I like to call them the vanilla extract of the beverage industry, but with a bitter backbone.  They are flavoring extracts intended to be added by the dash or drop to food or drink to enhance flavors.  All of our bitters are blended to bring you a high quality, potent flavor that tastes good as well.
  • How do I use bitters?
    • We recommend you add them by the dash or drop to drinks until you find your peak enjoyment with them.  If you’re using them in cooking, baking, etc. - you can add them as you would a flavoring extract.  In fact, we recommend you sub out some of your extracts and try these instead.
  • What are tinctures?
    • Tinctures are bitters but without an inherent bitter flavor.  Did you get that? ;) Basically all of our tinctures are single ingredient herbal extractions.  They are the plant plain and simple - all of the wonderful qualities and all of the funky flavors.  These are not blended in any way to taste anything other than what the plant has to offer.
  • What is the difference between bitters and tinctures?
    • Bitters are bitter and tinctures may or may not be.  Truly, that’s the difference.  They are both made the same way and they both are strong, herbally potent extractions.
  • Are your products certified organic?
    • They are not, but nearly all of our botanical ingredients are!  It’s very important for us that we source our ingredients from companies that exemplify our goals as individuals and as a business.  We aim for organic, sustainable, fairtrade, or wildharvested from people who understand plant sustainability.
